Best Spots: Rudy's Favorite EastLake Areas North of Olympic Parkway

The part of EastLake Rudy likes best: the villages north of East Palomar Street and Olympic Parkway, with their lakes, parks, trails and views.

BEST SPOTS · OCTOBER 2026

Ask Rudy where he likes best in EastLake and the answer is the area north of East Palomar Street and Olympic Parkway. That line separates the main EastLake villages from Otay Ranch and the newer communities near Otay Ranch Town Center to the south. Boundaries are approximate, so ask Rudy about any specific street.

The villages north of the line

  • EastLake Greens — An 830-acre community built around its own golf course, designed by Ted Robinson and opened in 1991, winding past six lakes and three waterfalls. Two neighborhood parks, Sunset View Park and Chula Vista Community Park, anchor weekend life. About EastLake Greens
  • EastLake Trails — Built roughly 2001 to 2005 around a network of walking, jogging and biking trails that connect several neighborhood parks. About EastLake Trails
  • EastLake Vistas — Part of EastLake III, with elevated views toward Otay Lakes and a mix of townhomes and single-family homes. About EastLake Vistas
  • EastLake Woods — Homesites set into the hills near Upper Otay Lake, many with mountain views, plus a community clubhouse with a pool and fitness space. The Gates, a gated enclave of 64 custom homesites, is inside. About EastLake Woods
  • EastLake Hills — One of the original villages of the EastLake master plan, part of EastLake I, which opened in 1986. Mostly detached single-family homes built circa 1987 to 1992. About EastLake Hills
  • EastLake Shores — The lakeside village of EastLake I, with condominiums, townhomes and some houses from the late 1980s, beside the community's man-made lake. About EastLake Shores
  • Rolling Hills Ranch — Mediterranean-style homes on the ridge overlooking Otay Lakes, across roughly 1,200 acres. The standout is Montevalle Park, a 29-acre city park at 840 Duncan Ranch Road with sports fields, courts, a skate area, an off-leash dog park and a community center. Bella Lago, a gated section of estate homes, sits in the far northeast corner. About Rolling Hills Ranch
  • Cockatoo Grove — A quieter corner in the Otay Lakes area, roughly a mile east-northeast of EastLake Greens, with established single-family homes. About Cockatoo Grove

And just south of the line, for comparison

  • Otay Ranch — A sprawling master-planned community south of EastLake, built out over decades on what was once cattle ranchland. Otay Ranch Town Center opened south of EastLake in 2006. About Otay Ranch
